Let Them Eat Cake Necklace
#73 Let Them Eat Cake Necklace
The infamous Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna von Habsburg-Lothringen...otherwise known as Marie Antoinette Queen of France and Navarre. To make up for the lack of affection from her husband and the endless criticism of her mother, Marie Antoinette began to spend more on gambling and clothing, with cards and horse-betting, as well as trips to the city and new clothing, shoes, pomade and rouge.
It is said by historians that Marie Antoinette never uttered these words or if she had, they were terribly misunderstood. On October 16th 1793 Marie Antoinette was put to death by a guillotine.
I have always been fascinated with Marie Antoinette, since reading "The Queen's Confession" by the famous gothic writer Victoria Holt. When chatting with a group of fellow wire wrappers,we discussed doing a small challenge. This is the piece I've created to be as decadent as a cake.
Totally hand fabricated right down to the toggle closure wrapped in small faceted rondelles of swiss blue topaz. The bar has a lavender mystic quartz round wire wrapped to the center.
The focal pendant is made up of heavy gauge wire wrapped with swiss blue topaz rondelles and an embellishment soldered to the bottom so I could attach a huge AAA honey topaz multi faceted briolette. Hanging in the center is a AAA step faceted plump spectacular pink amethyst nestled between two stardust sterling silver beads. Dangling from the sides are two equally spectacular laser pan cut pink amethysts. The center of the embellishment has a lovely lavender mystic quartz round wire wrapped to the center.
The chain is made up of hand linked AAA honey topaz polished nuggets and two "s" curved links wire wrapped with more beautiful swiss blue topaz rondelles.
This frothy confection is a delicious (55.9 cm) 22 inches long and oxidized to make the stones stand out and give it the look of being found in the queens stash of jewelry after many years of being hidden.
All components are solid sterling silver with flawless gem quality stones.
